Waste Alchemy

Produced by UnitePlayPerform, Reclaim and Transform is a pioneering regenerative initiative conceptualised by artist and founder Melissa Gilbert. The project reclaims abandoned camping materials, outdoor gear, fashion, and festival waste — transforming them into Eco-Techno-logy™️ through material innovation and closed-loop circular processes.

At its core, the initiative develops sculptural artworks known as Hybrid Habitats — collectable, living installations that provide shade, rest, nourishment, and repair. These functional soft spaces invite healing and connection, transforming waste into beauty and culture into care.

Reclaim and Transform is designed to shift waste culture and collective behaviour, driving systemic social and environmental change while reinforcing a “leave no trace” ethos.

We are addressing a pressing problem — telling a story of cultural repair and celebrating a network of material innovators, artists, and makers coming together to share regenerative methods through art, design, and creativity.

This is an open invitation to collaborators, partners, and key stakeholders from festivals and design studios, to institutions and councils, brands and philanthropists to cultural leaders and innovators to join us in building a new material future.
