Unity Web project aspires to amplify First Nations weavers and create a space for shared contribution and connection.

This concept was designed by Artist Founder and Educator Melissa Gilbert, Presented as UnitePlayPerform.

Take a seat and land.
Place headphones on and softly gaze, making eye contact with the person opposite and ground
Take a breath to open and listen to First Nations weavers tell their stories.

DISRUPT (Move to plinths)

INVITATION

Explore UnitePlayPerform’s value system represented through intentional words, colours and tactile keepsakes. 
Provocation “Which of the six values do you “feel” most connected to? Check in with self and be guided by your “felt” sense.
Choose your handmade keepsake to contribute to the Unity Web.

UNITE (Take a seat at Unity Web)

INVITATION

Connect to this heart space, the “Unity Web” collective artwork and
the surrounding community, then find a seat. 
Gently weave your intention with the keepsake as a creative contribution to the collective story of “Unity Web”.  
SHARE PROMPT : What is the Legacy you’ll leave behind?  
Get curious, spark conversation and share a story about what legacy means to you.  Reach out and ask your neighbour “What is the legacy you’ll leave behind?”.

PLAY

INVITATION

Discover a small part of the Unity Web that you connect with.
Express what you resonate with, discussion with your neighbours. 
Invent a movement with your hands that follows and mimics the intricate shapes you admire.

PERFORM 

INVITATION

Design a fresh commitment to your personal legacy work, discovered through new insights.
Enact your new found commitment to your personal legacy, embody your pledge by voicing it to your peers here and now.

Unity Web, will tour as a collective legacy artwork made by First Nations weavers from across the country.

Melissa Gilbert - descendant of the Mununjali Clan of the Yugambeh Nation from South East Queensland with links to Quandamooka. 

Unity Web harnesses the method and medicine of weaving circles globally and throughout time, creating a vital, embodied and organic space for people to connect, learn and share. In the context of Purpose Conference's hard truths, Unity Web is a space for healing.
